KUCHING: The Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) has called on the Ministry of Education (MOE) to conduct in-depth studies and consult all stakeholders prior to implementing the non-streaming system in the upper forms of the country’s secondary schools.
Its president Macky Joseph said consultation between the ministry and the stakeholders such as STU was necessary to ensure that all aspects are taken into consideration.
He also hoped that the ministry would deal with school infrastructure first to fulfill the urgent needs of schools throughout the state.
“This is to make them safe for teachers and students, and to create an environment that is conducive to learning,” he said to New Sarawak Tribune during his working visit to Kota Kinabalu last Sunday.
On Oct 14, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik was on a working visit to Germany when he reportedly called for the end of subject streaming for students who have gotten their form three assessment (PT3) results.
However, on Sunday, he clarified that the ministry had not made any policy change.
