KUCHING: Civil and structural consultants are being appointed for the RM350 million Stampin Resettlement Scheme flood mitigation project said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin.
He said the project scope detailed by the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government includes feasibility study and detailed design of flood mitigation options.
“The feasibility study will address issues related to environmental sustainability, socio-economic impacts, land use planning and flood mitigation options.
“The detailed design for flood mitigation work aims to resolve flooding issues as well as comprehensively upgrade roads and drainage within Stampin Resettlement Scheme area,” he said.
Yap added the duration of the study is 12 months from the date of the appointment of the consultants.
He said this in a statement detailing written answers received on three flood and drainage issues in Kota Sentosa which he raised in the recent state legislative assembly sitting.
Similarly, Yap said a sum of RM150 million was allocated for the flood mitigation project at federal government quarters near Jalan Burung Durian.
“The drainage improvement works is under the overall package of Sungai Sarawak Integrated River Basin Development Project (PLSB).
“The scope of the project includes the construction of a detention pond, 2.5 meters long and 3.0 meters wide RC drain and 1.5 meters diameters pipe culvert across Jalan Tun Jugah.
“The tender for the project has been called with physical implementation expected to commence in the first quarter of 2024 and is scheduled for completion in 2026,” he said.
On the flooding issue at Taman Happy Valley, Jalan Luis and off Jalan Tun Jugah, Yap said drainage improvement works is expected to commence early next year and to be completed by year-end.
“This includes the upgrading of the drainage system and installation of the pumping system at a cost of RM2.5 million,” he said.
The assemblyman expressed his commitment to ensure the infrastructure facilities in Kota Sentosa are periodically maintained and upgraded where necessary.
