KUCHING: Sarawak police have proposed container cabins be used temporarily as offices of the Belaga police headquarters and police station.
State Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail told reporters that they had already sent a letter to Bukit Aman police headquarters as well as informed the Home Affairs Ministry on the need to have a temporary police station.
“We are waiting for the approval of the allocation from the government,” he said.
Aidi explained that the temporary container offices would be set up in the front area of the compound at the Belaga police headquarters. This area was not affected by the recent fire.
In the meantime, Belaga police are using tents temporarily for the police headquarters and police station.
“Maybe in about one to two weeks, we will get the cabin containers if they are approved by the government for this emergency procurement,” said Aidi.
Earlier this week, a double-storey building block at the Belaga police headquarters was gutted by fire. The blaze was believed to have begun from the narcotics office. No casualties were reported in the 1pm inferno.
