KUCHING: The Muslim community in the state has been advised by the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg to immerse themselves in technology.
At the same time, he also advised them to be strong in their faith and to never stop learning about it.
“By doing this, we can benefit ourselves and add more to our knowledge,” he said.
He revealed this while attending the state-level ‘Majlis Tilawah Al-Quran’ at Dewan Majma, Kompleks Islam Sarawak here on Tuesday night.
Speaking during the event, he emphasised on the importance of knowledge to the Muslims and that it was their responsibility to immerse themselves so that they could carry out their responsibilities as Muslims.
“Islam is not a violent religion as it is known that Muslims have protected non-Muslims and vice versa.
“We must look at the situation and we have to be careful so that people can understand us and we can carry out our duties as Muslims.
“As with Sarawak, the people has put their trust in the state leaders who are Muslim and we appreciate the trust given because we understand each other,” said Abang Johari.
He added that the state comprises families that were made up of Muslims and non-Muslims in which they could live and eat together.
However, he said that should there be any conflict between the leaders, it would affect the families and the leaders would have to prevent that from happening.
Henceforth, the Chief Minister has called on all the Muslims in the state to be vigilant concerning groups or individuals who spread extremism, especially on social media.
“Let us use our knowledge which we have been blessed with and follow what is in the Al-Quran, let it be our foundation,” he said.
