KUCHING: The Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 seized 250 crates of beer with unpaid tax and Customs duties during an operation on Tuesday (Jan 19).

Its commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said his men came across a suspicious lorry in Kota Sentosa at 2.15pm while conducting Ops Landai patrolling activities.

He said the operations team then continued to trail the truck.

“However, upon realising the presence of the enforcement team, the driver tried to escape but was successfully intercepted by the officers at Jalan Sarmax, Penrissen,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 20).

Shamsol said the lorry driver was detained.

“An inspection on the lorry found 250 cases of beer estimated to be worth RM38,200,” he said.

He added the lorry driver failed to submit any valid documents regarding the alcoholic beverages.

“The operations team proceeded to arrest the 40-year-old driver and confiscated the cargo and the lorry which is estimated to be RM118,200 in total value,” he said.
