KUCHING: Police here disposed of 250,000 sticks of contraband cigarettes worth RM16,000 on Wednesday (Feb 3).
Kuching District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said the cigarettes were previously seized by the Sarawak Marine Police on Jun 5 last year.
The destroyed contraband cigarettes consisted of 500 cartons of ERA Filter (red), 250 cartons of ERA Menthol (green) and 500 cartons of ERA Menthol (black).
“All the items were disposed of after receiving instructions from the Sarawak Deputy Public Prosecutor.”
According to him, the disposal of the contraband involved items with unpaid tax and customs duties investigated under the Customs Act 1967.
