BAU: The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) nabbed a local man and seized contraband cigarettes worth RM359,462.80 in an operation called Ops Libas last Saturday.

Sarawak GOF Brigade commander SAC Mancha Ata said that the raid took place at 11.30am in a house in the city.

It was believed that the premises was used as a storehouse for uncustomed cigarettes.

“Further inspections led to the discovery of 470,040 various cigarette sticks stored in the house.

“The contraband items were seized as evidence,” he said in a statement.

Mancha noted that a 28-year-old man, who was present during the raid, was also arrested.

The arrests and seizures were later handed over to Bau district police headquarters (IPD) for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
