MIRI: The 12th Battalion of Miri General Operations Force (GOF) on Tuesday (Feb 15) seized smuggled liquor and cigarettes worth RM225,959.11 including unpaid duties.
The battalion, in its official page today, said a raid, dubbed Ops Kontraban Brigade, was carried out around 12pm on a premises in the city centre here, and three individuals, believed to be the premises’ caretakers were detained for questioning.
The liquor (4,723 bottles/cans) and cigarettes (1,082 cartons) were found inside the premises.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the premises is used to store the contrabands before distributing them to the buyers.
The suspects were handed over to the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
