Contractor promises to take remedial actions

KUCHING: A meeting was arranged by Batu Kitang Assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang and SUPP Public Complaints Bureau chief, Wilfred Yap after the latter received complaints from residents of Jalan Semaba near here on sloppy workmanship on road resurfacing works carried out by a contractor appointed by Kuching Water Board (KWB).

The meeting was attended by representatives from the resident community association of Jalan Semaba, Kuching Water Board officials and the contractor appointed by KWB to carry out the resurfacing works at Jalan Semaba.

During the meet ing, the sloppy workmanship and unsatisfactory resurfacing works by the KWB’s appointed contractor and the lack of adequate proper supervision by KWB officers was highlighted. Both Lo and Yap had also during the meeting gave stern warnings to the KWB contractor and KWB officials to buck up to ensure compliance with the terms of the contract document.

They also made it very clear to the KWB contractor that they would both recommend for the contractor to be blacklisted during KWB’s next meeting in the event that remedial works are not done and completed to the satisfaction of the Jalan Semaba residents in accordance with the contract document.

The KWB appointed contractor during the meeting had requested for time to carry out the remedial works and representatives of the Jalan Semaba resident community association have agreed to the contractor’s request.

Residents of Jalan Semaba are also urged to give feedbacks on the remedial works to be carried out by the KWB appointed contractor.

Yap said he was disappointed with the recent childish and unsubstantiated statement in the media on the matter by Abdul Aziz Isa, a special assistant to Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen. SUPP Public Complaints Bureau chief, Wilfred Yap hoped that Abdul Aziz Isa would get his facts right before making baseless and wild accusations and come up with positive suggestions instead of seeking cheap publicity.
