KUCHING: Members of the public in Sarawak can each play a role in the tourism industry and are equally important to help the state in achieving economic success.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin stressed that economic success not only lies in the hands of the tourism ministry or industrial sectors, but also the general public.
“When tourist come here, they meet various people. From thereon they are able to learn the different culture from our multicultural society,” he said during the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Excellence Award and Appreciation Night at Pullman Hotel on Friday night.
He also hoped that members of the public could contribute by promoting the state’s uniqueness – rich in diversity and natural wonders – to other parts of the world.
“It is also important to have good teamwork especially in this tourism industry,” he said.
Lee also emphasised that only with strong support, dedication and perseverance from the staff in every tourism sector, a world-class service would be delivered and help the state to reach its goals.
“Next year will be a busy and challenging year as we prepare for Visit Sarawak 2019,” he said, adding that the campaign would be a beginning to the ministry’s long-term campaign.
“The campaign will promote the state through music, art and festivals including international sports events, namely the World Para Swimming Championships and Asia Master Athletics Championship.”
Earlier, 30 staff received their Excellence Service Award while appreciation awards were presented to 19 retiring staff and five other staff who would be transferred to other agencies.
The event was organised to give recognition to the staff who had given their full commitment and dedication in carrying out their duties and responsibilities.
Also present was Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Hii Chang Kee.
