KUCHING: A total of 51 individuals who had contributed to Sarawak’s progress were awarded commemorative medals during the Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Medal presentation ceremony here today.
The presentation of medals was held in conjunction with the celebration of the 60th anniversary independence of Sarawak.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg presented the awards to the recipients.
Five persons received the Diamond Jubilee Distinguished Commemorative Medal (Pemacu Peringatan Terbilang Jubli Intan). They are former Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan Hong Nam and Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang, former acting Head of State Tan Sri Datuk Amar Bujang Mohd Nor, former federal minister and chairman of Tenaga Nasional Berhad Tan Sri Datuk Amar Leo Moggie Irok and chairman of the Tun Jugah Foundation Tan Sri Datuk Amar Leonard Linggi Jugah.
Forty-six others received the Diamond Jubilee Excellence Commemorative Medal (Gold) (Pingat Peringatan Cemerlang Jubli Intan (Emas).
Among the recipients are the Premier’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Rosmiati Kendati, wife to former Head of State, the late Tun Datuk Patinggi Ahmad Zaidi Adruce and Tan Sri Datuk Seri Empiang Jabu, wife of former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Alfred Jabu Numpang.
Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Seri Dr. Sim Kui Hian, as well as State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi were also awarded the medals.
