MIRI: The Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) Development Project will include a much needed convention centre here.

Mayor Adam Yii who is enthusiastic over this prospect said the city is in dire need of a proper convention centre to host bigger events.

“Therefore, the convention centre included in the Kenyalang Smart City Development Project is much welcomed,” he said.

At the KSC Summit held on Wednesday Yii highlighted the alignment of many initiatives from the Miri City Transformation Lab with the KSC project, underscoring the transformative potential for city.

Another significant addition to the project is the Fudan Traditional Chinese Medicine Centre, he said.

“The Fudan Traditional Chinese Medicine Centre will provide the exact kind of medical expertise and service for the city’s desire to develop into a medical tourism destination,” he added.
This facility aims to differentiate Miri from other medical tourism hubs, leveraging traditional Chinese medicine’s unique appeal.

Yii pledged full support and facilitation from the Miri City Council for the KSC project, noting its critical role in the city’s next phase of development.

“The overall development of this project will provide the much-needed impetus for the city’s growth, aligning with our vision of building Miri into a Green, Smart, and Most Liveable International Resort City,” he said.

The KSC Summit, organised by Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd, attracted over 50 local and international investors from the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and Singapore.

During a press conference, Teo Ah Khing, chairman and founder of TAK Group and CHC, announced that the KSC project is slated to begin construction in the third quarter of this year.

“The project received approval from the state government in May last year, and after detailed studies and compliance checks, we estimate the project will kick start in July 2024,” he said.
