KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a local man RM1,500, in default five months in prison, for intentionally causing bodily harm to another man he suspected of having an affair with his girlfriend.

Muhammad, 24, who works as a cook, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

He intentionally caused bodily harm by punching a 34-year-old man by the side of a building on Jalan Power at 10.15 pm on Dec 21, 2023.

Based on the case facts, Muhammad and a friend approached the complainant at a pub to confront him about his alleged relationship with Muhammad’s girlfriend, named Rose.

Dissatisfied with the complainant’s response, Muhammad punched him, causing bodily injuries.

As a result of the incident, the complainant lodged a police report for further action.

Investigations revealed that Muhammad committed the offence in the presence of two witnesses.

A witness positively identified Muhammad during a police identification parade.
