BELADIN: Solid cooperation between agencies is important in resolving water supply disruptions faced by residents during the festive and drought seasons.

Batang Lupar Member of Parliament Mohamad Shafizan Kepli said that the issue of water supply has complicated the daily affairs of the residents in Beladin.

“So much so that some people say, there is less joy during Hari Raya because they have to stay up in the middle of the night to collect water.

“The disruption of electricity at homes here also makes it difficult for those celebrating.

“And as an elected representative myself, I speak up so that a solution can be taken. That’s why I say it’s important for agencies such as the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) to focus on water issues, Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) to focus on electricity issues. Similarly, other agencies should help each other, including the relevant ministry,” he said.

He said this at the Batang Lupar parliamentary constituency and Beting Maro state constituency’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House for Beladin Zone hosted by Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor here, on Wednesday night.

“I am grateful to the Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Julaihi Narawi who gave a quick response in this matter.

“I just hope that it can be implemented immediately and should be completed within the time frame according to the schedule so that when other festive seasons or drought season comes, the residents will no longer face the same problem.

“The rural people deserve the best basic facilities like in the city,” he said.

Shafizan in the meantime expects JBALB to have an immediate action plan in case of water supply disruption.

“For example, an immediate short-term solution plan is needed so that the people are not too affected.

“Among other things, ensure that the water delivered using tankers is sufficient… or any strategic plan that is necessary.

“I believe that JBALB has the assets and the ability to provide the best service to the people when issues arise. Therefore, I want them to be more proactive,” he added.
