BINTULU: A policeman attached with the mobile police vehicle unit here shot himself dead early Wednesday.
Bintulu OCPD Supt Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed the tragic incident.
“The incident occurred at 12.05am today (June 19),” he said.
The deceased has been identified as LKpl Benjamin Sagakhan Cuthbert Nyalipan, 48.
The deceased died of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face, Supt Zulkipli added.
“He shot himself with a Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine gun.”
Prior to the incident, the deceased had just collected his weapon from the store for his 12am-8am shift.
Supt Zulkipli said the body had been taken to Bintulu hospital for post-mortem.
The case, he added, had been classified as sudden death.
