KUCHING: Police arrested three individuals for driving under the influence (DUI) during a traffic operation dubbed Ops Mabuk along Jalan Padungan here.

District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said the trio were among 83 road users screened by the traffic police in the four-hour operation that started from 9.30pm to 1am on Saturday (July 12).

He added the trio aged 22, 24 and 26 were detained at the roadblock held at Jalan Padungan.

Awang pointed out that the preliminary breath test using the Screening Device II (SDII) showed that all three suspects tested positive for alcohol.

“We also used the Evidential Breath Analyser (EBA) test on the suspects after they were taken to the district headquarters.

“Results from the test indicated that only two of three suspects have had alcohol contain of more than 99mg/100mg and 208mg/100mg in their body while, another tested negative,” he said when contacted today.

Awang also said the police have inspected 57 vehicles and issued 35 summonses for various traffic offences.
