KUCHING: Police here arrested 12 individuals on suspicion of operating an illegal call centre for online gambling activities at Jalan Batu Kawa last Sunday (Oct 18).

Sarawak Crime Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Denis Leong stated that a D7 police team from the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) arrested the group during a raid on a terrace house.

“The team raided the house around 7.30pm and arrested a local woman, six foreign women and five foreign men aged 18 to 28.

“Apart from that, 11 laptops were also confiscated,” he said in a statement.

The call centre is believed to be in operations for about five months, earning an estimated profit of RM100,000 to RM150,000 per month.

Leong revealed that since January, the police, in a joint operation with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), had cut off the power supply to 676 premises involved in gambling activities.
