BINTULU: Police have crippled a burglary gang known as ‘Njok’ in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Pintu’ last month.
The operation, led by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) on Feb 19, resulted in the arrest of four local suspects, all in their 20s, at different locations across the district.
Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the gang’s activities since the start of the year were brought to a halt following the arrests.
“Their modus operandi involved breaking into homes by prying open door locks using tools such as screwdrivers, scissors, pliers, and homemade iron hooks.
“Following thorough investigation, the police were led to the recovery of stolen items such as six rings, a necklace, two tablets, bank cards and various documents.
“These recovered items are valued at RM33,754 and are linked to three known burglary cases,” he said.
Further background checks revealed that two of the suspects had previous records of drug abuse, and three of them were tested positive for drugs.
Nixon said the gang is believed to be responsible for at least six burglary cases in the Bintulu area, based on their initial confession.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, and charges are expected to be filed against the suspects in court soon.
In light of this, the public is urged to report any suspicious activities or information regarding criminal activities to the Bintulu police operations room at 086-318304.
