KUCHING: Six individuals were nabbed for operating an illegal online gambling centre during a raid at Batu Kawah New Township here last Sunday (Oct 11).
The raid was carried out by a team of Padawan Criminal Investigation Division (CID) personnel around 5.30pm.
Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the team arrested six Indonesian individuals (four men and two women), aged between 20 and 29.
He said that the syndicate was believed to have conducted the online gambling operation for at least one year and six months at the said location.
“During the raid, the team also seized monitors, central processing units (CPUs), keyboards, computer mouses, mobile phones and modems.
“The suspects and seized items were taken to the police station for further action,” he said in a statement.
Aidil added that the total profit for the syndicate reached RM10,000 per day.
“The group’s modus operandi is to conduct customer search activities through gambling phone games which includes 918kiss, Kiss Kaya, Mega888, and XE888 online.
“The group also used a rented apartment unit to hide from authorities. The living room is used as an operations room and there are two bedrooms for the operators. Each operator is supplied with a smartphone by the syndicate and their deal involves local customers.
“Each bet amount will be credited by the customer to several syndicate bank accounts and a bank slip will be sent via text, WhatsApp or Telegram to the operator’s phone,” he said.
