KUCHING: The police are looking for another 14 people to help in the investigation of the murder of a businessman, Clement Tan Teck Howe, who was killed in a mob attack at Wong King Huo Road last Thursday morning.

State Police Commissioner, Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the police had earlier indentified 12 people suspected to be involved in the fatal incident, but the number had increased to 17 people following further investigation.

“Three of the 17 suspects had been arrested and remanded. We (police) are now looking for the remaining 14 individuals. We know who they are and it is just a matter of time before we arrest them. I urge these individuals to go the nearest police station and surrender themselves,” he said after attending the monthly assembly at the State Police Contingent Headquarters here on Tuesday.

Mazlan said the fight arose following a dispute between the victim and another individual via WeChat application.

In that incident, Tan was having a drink with his friends about 12.30am at a coffee shop in Wong King Huo Road when two men confronted him and a quarrel ensued between them.

This eventually led to a brawl which saw the victim was beaten up until he lost consciousness and sent to the hospital before he died at 5.22am.

Meanwhile, Mazlan advised the public to be wise in making online purchase involving anonymous sellers.

Commenting on a case of drugs purchased online sometime this year, Mazlan said the public must be aware of the items they purchased online to prevent themselves from falling victims to drug pushers masquerading as online sellers.

“Sometimes the products sent to the customers by the sellers are different from the ones they purchased online. In order to prevent such incident from occurring, make sure the items you purchased online are from legitimate companies,” he said.
