BINTULU: Narcotics police arrested a local man for allegedly possessing syabu intended for distribution around the district.

Local police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the arrest was made around Parkcity area yesterday (Oct 1).

“The 36-year-old suspect is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 following the seizure of suspected syabu weighing 288.5g.

“Further investigations revealed that the seized drugs were intended for distribution around Bintulu, potentially catering to around 580 users,” he said in a statement.

Nixon added that the suspect, who tested negative for drugs, could face a maximum prison sentence of 30 years and up to 15 lashes of the cane, upon conviction.

He added that the arrest was part of continuous efforts to combat drug abuse and prevent criminal activities in Bintulu.
