MIRI: A total of 62 vehicles were inspected and 49 summonses issued during a four-hour ‘Ops Mabuk’ conducted by the Miri District Police Headquarters at the Miri-Bintulu road on Friday night.

The operation, which began at 11 pm on Sept 13 and concluded at 4.30 am on Sept 14, involved two officers and ten personnel.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said three men aged between 49 and 62 were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol above the legal limit.

The drivers were detained under Section 45a(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Those convicted of driving under the influence may face imprisonment of up to two years, fines ranging from RM10,000 to RM30,000, and a license disqualification for two years,” he said in a statement.

Alexson also advised the public against driving while intoxicated, emphasising the dangers it poses to both the driver and other road users.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the police to ensure road safety and curb driving under the influence offences.
