PADAWAN: Police have arrested a man on suspicion of damaging a bank’s automatic teller machine (ATM) in Siburan.

Padawan OCPD Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the 37-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday (June 27) at aound 9am.

The suspect, who has no priors, will be investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief and causing damage.

Last Sunday (June 26), police received a report from an auxiliary policeman attached to the bank regarding cracks on one of the ATMs’ screen at midnight.

Supt Abang Zainal Abidin stated that the complainant was informed by the bank’s centre that the bank’s door was opened around 12.12am.

“Around 12.18pm, a customer contacted the complainant informing that there were cracks on the screen of an ATM.

“As soon as he received the information, the complainant rushed to the scene and confirmed the damage,” he said, adding that the bank suffered damages amounting to RM800.
