MIRI: A 60-year-old man, who ran amok and threatenedto kill his stepdaughter, was detained by the police early this morning, five hours after the alleged incident.

During the 8pm incident which happened inside a house in Lambir, the suspect suddenly became angry with the woman for refusing to have dinner with him.

He also threatened to kill his stepdaughter and burn down their house.

Fearing for her safety, the 21-year-old single mother lodged a police report over the incident.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari confirmed the arrest. 

The suspect is being detained at the Miri central police station. 

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
