KUCHING: Police are now on the hunt for five masked individuals, who vandalised and threw a ball of firecrackers inside Sanya Bistro at Saradise last night (Oct 21).

Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed that they received a report on the incident at Jalan Stutong.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that five unknown men damaged the interior of the bistro with wooden sticks, and threw a ball of firecrackers, sparking a fire.

“The incident resulted in damages amounting RM97,000. Efforts are underway to locate and arrest the suspects,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 and 435 of the Penal Code for mischief that causes loss or damage and mischief by fire.

Those with information on the incident is urged to channel them to investigating officer ASP Joshua Masing Lugoh at 017-9542048, Kuching police operations room at 082-24444 or the nearest police station.

Sanya Bistro, in a Facebook post early this morning, confirmed the fire incident and shared two CCTV clips of the incident.

“Fortunately, no injuries were reported. We have filed a police report to ensure the safety of our business and customers.

“We also urge anyone who was present between 6.45 pm and 7 pm to come forward with witness accounts to assist the authorities,” the bistro management said.

Sanya Bistro added it they would remain closed for investigation and cleaning.

Last night (Oct 21), the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call at 7.02 pm on the incident and deployed firefighters from Tabuan Jaya station to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found smoke emanating from the premises and quickly extinguished three fire patches on chairs, tables and benches.
