Cops searching for culprits of SRB boat theft

The SRB patrol boat was found by villagers near Sungai Sai Selumit after it was reported missing on Monday.

TANJUNG MANIS: Police are actively pursuing leads to arrest individuals involved in the theft of a patrol boat owned by the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) following detection of criminal elements activity.

The boat was reported missing from the Tanjung Manis jetty around 6am on Monday (Apr 22).

Four hours later, the boat was discovered by the villagers near Sungai Sai Selumit, about 1km from the jetty.

Sarikei police chief, Supt Aswandy Anis said that his team was despatched to the scene after being informed of the discovery.

Preliminary investigations revealed that several items in the boat were missing and were believed to be stolen.

“The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

“Efforts to track down the perpetrators are underway,” he said.

Following this, Aswandy advised the public not to speculate on the case and refrain from spreading unsubstantiated information that could lead to confusion.

Members of the public with any information regarding the case are encouraged to report them to the nearest police station.
