LUNDU: Police clarified that no summons were issued for vehicles parked along roads during the three-day ‘Pesta Sematan’ last week as claimed by netizens.
Social media was abuzz with viralled postings of ‘Pesta Saman’. Netizens alleged that many vehicles parked by the roadside were issued summonses despite the area having a limited parking space during the festival from Aug 11 to 13.
Lundu police chief DSP Damataries Lautin refuted the claims, arguing that only three summonses were issued for parking violations during the festival period.
“Throughout the festival period, only three summonses were issued for parking offences which involved a car, a van and a Hilux (four-wheel drive) as all of them were parked on festival grounds.
“No vehicles parked by the roadside near the festival entrance were issued summonses.
“If any vehicle was found obstructing traffic and endangering other road users, we informed the owner to relocate the vehicle to another parking spot,” he said.
However, Lundu police issued a total of 74 summonses against 28 motorcyclists for various offences including modifications, licence and insurance violations, lack of safety features, and improper licence plates.
Damataries advised the public to refrain from spreading false information and appealed to them to verify details through reliable channels.
