BETONG: Corporate bodies are called to continue to do more of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes in rural areas.
In stating this, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas suggested that they (corporate bodies) could focus on two main areas which are in health care and in education.
He said this when officiating at the handing over of basic medical and non-medical equipment for the Nanga Mujau health clinic in Spak at Rh Isup Iba here yesterday.
For the record, Nanga Mujau clinic is one of the 26 clinics in the state chosen for the programme for which a budget of RM1.3 million had been set aside.
During the ceremony, 22 pieces of equipment costing RM50,000 were handed over to the said health clinic.
While stating that the programme here is a collaboration between Petronas, the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers Sarawak (SABATI) and the Health Department, Uggah also commended Petronas for this meaningful contribution.
“I hope this will not be the first and the last of it by Petronas. Please continue to help us in upgrading the quality of life for the rural folk.
“To the rural folk I hope they will look after their health. When you remain healthy, you can still work in your farms,” he said.
In view of this, Petronas general manager for Sarawak Zulaihi Mohd Mantali in his speech gave assurance that they would continue to assist in educational programmes in the state which it had done since 1975.
“Even if the price of oil drops in the market, we will not reduce our financial aid,” he said.
