KUCHING: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (PUSAKA) has established its Risk and Integrity Management Division to provide direction and guidance to stakeholders in cultivating the spirit of cooperation, unity, integrity, morality and ethics.
The division also enhances awareness, commitment and collaboration among its stakeholders in the effort to promote integrity.
“In this regard, the Integrity Section carries out six core functions: Governance, Integrity Strengthening, Complaint Management, Detection and Verification, Compliance, and Discipline.
“To strengthen these efforts, four officers ranging from grades 44 to 52 have participated in the Certified Integrity Officer (CeIO) course since 2019 until the present.
“These efforts have yielded several commendable achievements, including the Recognition Award for commitment and collaboration in Instilling Integrity and Good Governance in 2019 from the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNIONS); achieving 73 percent overall Organizational Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) compliance as of June 2023; certification of four Certified Integrity Officers (CeIO); establishment of Integrity Units in three subsidiary companies of PUSAKA, namely Harwood Timber Sdn. Bhd., PUSAKA Capital Sdn. Bhd., and Hornbill Skyways Sdn. Bhd.; and the Integrity, Governance and Anti-Corruption (AIGA) Award 2022 – Silver,” it said in a statement.
Since its inception in 2019, PUSAKA has implemented various programmes to strengthen integrity in line with state government directives.
An annual Integrity Day Celebration is held, underscoring PUSAKA’s commitment to instilling integrity values, which are practiced by every member of PUSAKA in their respective roles.
“PUSAKA has also documented the Organizational Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) and Corruption Risk Management Plan (CRM) as initiatives to uphold integrity values and counter corruption, as well as establish and enforce Corporate Integrity Policies, Gift Policies, and Whistleblower Protection Policies.
“PUSAKA is also in the process of formulating Guidelines for Ethical Complaints Management, Detection, and Verification to ensure that the management of complaints or information related to misconduct, breaches of discipline, and criminal offenses are handled transparently, systematically, efficiently, fairly, and in accordance with relevant directives,” it said.
Furthermore, several engagement sessions are conducted in collaboration with the Agency Integrity Management Division (BPIA) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to strengthen the strategic relationship between MACC, PUSAKA, and its subsidiaries.
These sessions aim to enhance cooperation, particularly in corruption prevention among PUSAKA employees and stakeholders.
The establishment of PUSAKA’s integrity direction and commitment is centred on individuals with integrity and practical implementation strategies.
These ongoing programmes and initiatives are vital in enhancing compliance and reducing misconduct, thereby fortifying integrity.
The senior management and leadership of PUSAKA are strongly committed to nurturing a harmonious and integrity-driven organisational culture.
