KUCHING: Over 150 people, including 14 cosplayers, recently took part in the Cosplay Skit Competition held at CityOne Megamall here.
The event, organised by the Bandar Kuching Service Centre in collaboration with elo Anime 2023, showcased a dynamic blend of creativity and talent.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii expressed his enthusiasm for the event, highlighting how cosplaying serves as a platform for individuals to express their creativity through costume creation and customisation.
“Cosplaying involves a range of skills such as sewing, crafting, and makeup application, providing an outlet for artistic expression.
“Moreover, it often necessitates learning new skills like costume design, prop making, and makeup application, contributing to the development of practical and artistic abilities that extend beyond the world of cosplay,” he said in a statement today (Dec 7).
“Dressing up as a beloved character and embodying their traits can boost confidence. Many cosplayers find empowerment in portraying characters they admire, helping them overcome shyness or self-consciousness.”
Dr Yii expressed satisfaction in seeing youth from diverse backgrounds unite in their shared interest in anime.
“Youths are often viewed as the future leaders of the country. Therefore, it is essential to consistently engage with the youth to understand them.
“As such, my office will continue to work with different groups and associations to organise more such events for the benefit of youth,” he added.
