KUCHING: Starting from an interest in daring to try new things, Kippi Dinny Nosin, 25, who hails from Kampung Giam Puncak Borneo began to be interested in couch decoration in 2015.
He was active in simple couch decoration at relatives’ parties and over time he improved his skills and items for decoration until now.
The couch decoration business was also started by him and his siblings.
“We have decoration services for various occasions such as weddings, engagements, birthday parties and so on. In addition, we also take flower/chocolate bouquet orders. This is a part-time business,” he explained to the New Sarawak Tribune.
They operate a sales business on weekends when they all have their day off from their jobs. Their business operates online and also home-based without any shop or business premises.
“We don’t have any assistants other than our siblings to help with our products,” he said.
The challenge he encountered in his business is that time is quite limited because this is a part-time venture as he also works as an instructor at an institute.
So, his focus for real work and this part-time business requires him to divide his time correctly. In addition, labour constraints are also one of the challenges faced when doing this business, especially when it involves large and many events in one day.
“Usually I promote my business through social media such as Facebook, TikTok and so on,” he said.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, many sellers were greatly affected. Public events and ceremonies were not allowed to be held. So, most sellers have no income to generate.
“The couch we decorate is according to the price that is reasonable with the client’s budget and the design that the client requests,” he said.
As an instructor at an institution, he has a lot to learn and experience. The decoration business is also his interest and hobby.
“The ones who always give me encouragement throughout my business are my family members, my friends and also my regular customers,” he said.
“My dream in this business is to keep moving forward in ideas, results and customer satisfaction is our priority,” he said.
