KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has come in for praise for his role in solving the current traffic problems along the Samarahan-Kuching Expressway.
Padawan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos said the council is happy and appreciative of Uggah’s efforts.
“He has met with MPKS twice in two weeks on the traffic problems and called in JKR and the police plus the contractors for good workable suggestions and solutions.
“We appreciate that. We at the local councils need top leaders like Uggah to help us out because we cannot do it alone,” he said in a press statement here, today.
“And we cannot absorb the brickbats alone. Together we can face any obstacle.
“On the waste collection problem at Samarahan which was basically due to the closure of the Kampung Plaie dumping ground at Samarahan and for the waste to be dumped at faraway Triieneken Mambong Padawan, MPKS met the scavenging contractors and adjusted the collection timings and schedules that are workable and practical,” he said.
That should ease problems caused by the delays created by the distance and trucks lining up before dumping, he said.
“By next Monday all wastes not collected will be cleared. This is an emergency and urgent measure. After that, the new timing and collection schedules will take effect,” he assured.
He warned that contractors should strictly comply with the new arrangements, failing which MPKS will relook and review things. MPKS takes public interests as top priority,” he said.
