KAPIT: Kapit District Council (KDC) has disinfected Market Teresang and the Night Street Market including public places and five-foot ways around town.

This followed a directive from the Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) Sarawak to reopen the markets (with permanent structures) to ensure fresh and sufficient supplies of vegetables, meat and other necessities.

KDC’s public health and enforcement sections did this for two successive days on March 30 and 31. The markets were reopened beginning yesterday.

The council also disinfected the whole of its office building as a preventive measure against Covid-19.

When the markets were opened, there was a sudden increase in the number of vehicles in town.

So far, this town is free of Covid-19, but despite stringent crowd control and enforcement of social distancing, some people were seen avoiding the entrances and exits marked by the council’s enforcement teams.
