KUCHING: The secretary general of the Indonesia Dayak National Custom Council (MADN) Yakobus Kumis hopes that President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, and Ma’ruf Amin’s new cabinet will include ministers from the Dayak community.
Kompas.com in Pontianak quoted Yakobus as saying that the Dayaks, the biggest ethnic group in Kalimantan, would like to see some of them appointed as ministers in Jokowi’s cabinet.
Yakobus also said that there were many Indonesian Dayaks still living in remote parts of Indonesia, mostly in West Kalimantan (Kalbar), who were lagging behind in development.
He said the appointment of Dayak ministers would help to develop Dayak potentials and bring them to greater heights.
“The presence of Dayak ministers in the cabinet will also be an inspiration for the Dayak community to improve their competency,” added Yakobus.
He, however, agreed it was the prerogative of Jokowi to choose his cabinet members.
Jokowi had said his new cabinet members would be a combination of professionals and representatives of political parties.
