KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has launched an education campaign targeting primary schools in conjunction with the ban on plastic straw in its jurisdiction.

In a press release today, the council said it was organising a poster design competition for primary school pupils.

“The theme of this competition is “Say No to Plastic Straw Poster Design Competition”. The participants are required to use color pencils, watercolor or/and crayon to create the poster,” it said.

Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng has invited all primary school pupils in Kuching to join the competition because the awareness needs to start from to this group of students.

“Since the school break is coming, the participants would be able to fill their free time by designing the poster,” he said.

He believed that advocacy starts from the community and thus the council would like to provide a platform for community members to advocate for this cause.
