LIMBANG: Members of district council hold great duties and responsibilities in serving the people, said Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.
According to him, being appointed as a councillor carries great meaning and also a heavy responsibility.
“Your appointment is approved by the state government and approved by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, and that is why I say your job is very important and do not take it lightly,” he said during the recent swearing-in ceremony of the Limbang District Council (MDL) members.
In the meantime, he also thanked the former councillors who had served for the past few years and congratulated the council on several achievements, including successfully operating on a positive budget and having a surplus of RM3.4 million.
“MDL was awarded four stars in the star rating system throughout Malaysia and scored 81.02 per cent, which is ranked 18 out of 26 local authorities (PBT) in Sarawak and nationally ranked 53 out of 123 PBT,” he added.
Therefore, he hoped that local authorities would go to the ground and be responsible for the cleanliness, maintenance of roads, and drainage in their respective areas.
“As councillors, we need to be more sensitive to complaints from the public; do not ignore them so that we can improve the quality of our service to the people,” he said.
A total of 30 MDL council members were sworn in, with 13 of them being new members appointed for the period from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2025.
