MIRI: Miri City Council will continue seeking more funding for its beautification programme and to upgrade facilities at its public parks.
Mayor Adam Yii said the ultimate aim is to realise its vision of transforming the city into a Green, Smart, Most Liveable International Resort City by Year 2030.
In conjunction with this the council also plans to continue organising the annual Home Garden and Landscaping Competition which dates back to 1980.
It is aimed at promoting among houseowners as well as public and private property owners an appreciation for the aesthetic value of a green environment, landscaping and on preserving the natural habitat.
“We believe such a programme is very helpful in enriching our quality of life both physically and mentally,” said Yii at the announcement of winners in this year’s competition here today.
“Honestly, doing gardening like adding compost to a flower bed, pruning a shrub – all of these activities seem to absorb you so fully that any other problems or concern is temporarily suspended,” he said, illustrating his point.
