SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and local residents should work together to keep the environment clean, said chairman of SMC, Clarence Ting.

He said this during a gotong-royong session jointly organised by the village development and security committee (JKKK) and neighbourhood watch committee (KRT) of Kampong Jeriah on Sunday (Sept 27).

“I informed the residents that maintaining cleanliness in their neighbourhood is a source of pride for everyone living there. I was happy to see that many came to help today.

“The JKKK also highlighted issues that need immediate action by the council,” he added.

Among the issues included road erosion near Jeriah Barat 4 and trees along the main road that need to be trimmed.

Apart from that, he said the residents here needed more bulk bins as those staying nearby also throw their rubbish in the area.

“Residents here also expressed a need for speed bumps as I was informed that some drivers do not even slow down for pedestrians,” he explained.

Some other issues, he said, are missing manhole covers and clogged drains.

“I already informed the council to take action,” he said.
