Council to host Sibu Gawai Dayak Bazaar

SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (MPS) will host the Gawai Dayak Bazaar at Taman Tasik Permai here from May 13-22.

Organising chairman Sammy Ngelambai said the bazaar will operate from 2 pm to 10 pm each day.

He said it will feature 16 stalls selling various items such as souvenirs, handicrafts, food, beverages, and so forth.

“Apart from product buying and selling, this time the bazaar will be enlivened street music performances and so on.

“We invite the public to come to our bazaar,” he said, adding this is the first time the bazaar is being hosted by the council a little outside the city center.

“Usually, the bazaar site is held at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase II.”

Sammy said the bazaar had received the cooperation of Dayak non -governmental organisations like the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu, Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS), Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA), Orang Ulu National Association (OUNA), Punan National Association (PNA) and Sarawak Dayak Youth Organisation (PEBEDAS).

Meanwhile, a gotong-royong was conducted by the MPS with representatives of the Dayak non-governmental organisations to clean the bazaar site on Sunday.
