KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) together with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) will look into the drainage issues in Taman Univista in an effort to alleviate flooding.

“Drains that need to be widened and deepened will be done. Unfortunately, there is little that can be done about the weather, which can be erratic and unpredictable at times,” said MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos today.

“I feel so sorry for my friends residing in Taman Univista because not only are they in the Covid-19 red zone and under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), but this morning they woke up to floodwaters in and around their houses,” he said.

Nevertheless, he said the residents of Taman Univista were hardy and resilient, and would be able to persevere through these challenging times.

He noted that several other areas in Samarahan were also affected by flash floods, including Kampung Pangkalan Kuap and Kampung Merdang Lumut.

While he pointed out that things were currently not looking positive in Samarahan – what with it being a Covid-19 red zone, Taman Univista being placed under EMCO, and flash floods occurring – he expressed confidence that the people of Samarahan would overcome the hurdles.

“We will get through it all and will come out soon and for the better,” assured Minos.
