KUCHING: Local councils play an important role in helping the state government to achieve the high income status by 2030.

Deputy Premier, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian added local councils also ensured that the city was developed in line with the state government policies.

“We need to live in a sustainable healthy city and we need your help because we want this place to be developed. We need to look at our policies, projects and do something out of ordinary from usual for the betterment of our place.

“Therefore, the local councils are urged to be committed and work hard in providing their services to the people and be part of the government,” he said during the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Ramah Tamah Raya Gawai 2022 event at Imperial Hotel here today.

He said the state was marching forward to 2030, and by 2030, he believed that the council would be smarter  and the city among the best in the region.

“We will have the money and we will be the best in 2030 if we perform our best in our services  and development projects for the people,” he told.

Meanwhile, MBKS Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng said his councillors would continue to work smartly with the management team to resolve people’s problems wherever and whenever possible.

“They have reengineered themselves to take pressure and meet public demands  in the most efficient and effective manner.

“We at MBKS are determined to meet the expectations for Kuching in the years to come and pledge to do our best in providing first-class services to the people in Kuching,” he added.

He said the city council had been innovating and adapting to meet any challenges and that it was no longer adequate to have one-size-fits-all solution.

“They now look for innovative and customer-oriented solutions to meet the diverse and sophisticated needs of Kuchingites. All of them know that they cannot think only in terms of administrative expediency and efficiency. They now look at service from the customer perspectives and seek to satisfy the customers they serve,” he pointed out.
