BINTANGOR: A couple has been arrested by narcotics police on yesterday (July 5) for their alleged involvement in drug distribution activities in Jalan Bunga Raya here.
Acting on a tip-off from the public, the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) conducted a raid on an unnumbered house, resulting in the seizure of 63.69g of suspected methamphetamine drugs with an estimated value of RM12,738.
According to Meradong OCPD DSP Sekam Anoi, the couple, aged 48 and 55, are believed to have been engaged in drug distribution activities within the local market.
“Additionally, a sum of RM2,293 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking, was seized. The team also confiscated a Proton Saga vehicle valued at approximately RM15,000 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988,” he stated.
Investigations have revealed that the couple sourced their drug supplies from an individual in Sibu and had been actively involved in distributing drugs around Bintangor since February, 2022.
Background checks revealed that the male suspect had tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, with two prior records of drug-related offences. On the other hand, the female suspect tested negative for drugs and had no prior criminal records.
DSP Sekam further noted that the suspects are currently under remand for six days, until July 12, to aid investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In a separate development, police have also apprehended five individuals, believed to be acquaintances of the suspects, outside the premises under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
