SERIAN: A married couple narrowly escaped a fiery death after their car burst into flames near Bukit Rasau along the Pan Borneo Highway last night (Nov 4).
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Serian station were dispatched to the scene, about 5km away, after receiving an emergency call.
Upon arrival, they found the Perodua Viva engulfed in flames and extinguishing efforts were performed using water sourced from the fire truck.
The flames, causing 90 per cent damages to the vehicle, was brought under control at 10.06 pm, followed by overhaul works to ensure the fire would not reignite.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 10.32 pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
