BINTULU: The Department of Veterinary Services here organised a course on swiftlet farming that attracted over 60 participants.
Persatuan Dayak Tatau (Perdata) or Tatau Dayak Association chairman Eju Giri described the programme as important in helping the rural community, especially those interested — and who are — in swiftlet farming.
“Bird’s nest is a new source of wealth, especially for the population in rural areas. On behalf of Perdata, I would like to thank the department for organising this programme,” he said today.
The programme yesterday comprised a talk on the management of the industry in Sarawak, site selection and management of swiftlets as well as harvesting, cleaning, sales and marketing of bird’s nest.
Besides that, the talk also touched on swiftlet house registration and certification (GAHP and RFID) as well as the roles of Sarawak Forestry Cooperation in the industry.
Eju also expressed hope for the state government to provide assistance to those interested in swiftlet farming such as through the allocation of Agriculture Facilitation Fund (AFF).
