KUCHING: The Magistrate Court here yesterday ordered a six-month good behaviour bond with a bail of RM2,000 with one surety for stealing a tin of milk powder valued at RM89.90 from a beauty and health store.
Liew Jiew Khwang, 26, from Stutong, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC), which was read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
He was charged with committing the offense in a beauty and health store in a shopping centre at Jalan Wan Alwi, around 2.50 pm on October 25 last year.
According to the facts of the case, at the time of the incident, the complainant was arranging stock in the store when informed by a colleague that a man had hastily and suspiciously left the store.
The complainant then chased the accused to the motorcycle parking area before handing him over to the security guards for inspection.
Upon checking, they found a tin of Enercal Plus milk powder valued at RM89.90 hidden inside the jacket the accused was wearing without having made payment.
The accused was then handed over to the police for further action.
Investigation revealed the accused was found with the intention to steal the tin of milk powder priced at RM89.90 that he had taken from the store.
It is understood that the accused, who is unemployed, admitted to stealing the milk powder due to a desperate need for personal use.
The prosecution was handled by Prosecutor Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
