KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court has ordered eight locals to maintain peace for six months following a brawl triggered by a social media post captioned ‘Team Sundal’ last Thursday (July 18).
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi imposed the sentence on six women and two men, aged between 21 and 29, who pleaded guilty to charges under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
According to the case details, around 2.30 am, three of the individuals were about to head home after a night out at an entertainment centre along Jalan Stutong when they were suddenly assaulted by five others, leading to a violent altercation.
A police report was subsequently filed for further investigation.
Investigations revealed that the brawl stemmed from dissatisfaction with an Instagram post captioned ‘Team Sundal’ uploaded by one of the individuals involved.
To avert further incidents, all eight individuals were ordered to post a peace bond of RM1,000 each for a period of six months.
ASP Hisyam Junaidi prosecuted the case, while the eight individuals were represented by counsel Lim Lian Kee.
