PETALING JAYA: The Kuching High Court has affirmed that Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) Roy Angau Gingkoi is the Lubok Antu MP after striking out an election petition filed by a rival candidate.
Justice Duncan Sikodol said Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) candidate Johnical Rayong Ngipa failed to establish the allegations made against Angau, the Election Commission (EC) and its returning officer, The Borneo Post reported.
Rayong, who is also the Engkilili assemblyman, had lost the seat to Angau by 100 votes in a four-cornered contest in the 15th general election (GE15) last November.
The PSB man claimed that his request for a recount was rejected by the returning officer without giving any reason.
He also claimed several TV stations reported that PSB had won. Instead, Angau was declared the winner.
Rayong, who is PSB deputy president, told reporters outside the court that he will not appeal against the decision.
He was quoted as saying that he was “very sad” over the outcome and would put in more effort in the next general election.
