Court sets May 9 for remention of Eric Chang murder case

KUCHING: The High Court on today (April 6) has set May 9 as remention date for the Eric Chang murder case, to enable prosecution to handover relevant documents to the court.

This is in accordance with Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The court appointed lawyer Daniel Ling on March 3 to defend both Wendy Chai Xue Zhen, 36, and Ling Kok Liang, 51, who will be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

Judge Azhahari Kamal Ramli has extended the remand of both accused at the Puncak Borneo Prison until the re-mention date.

The court was told on today that the defendants’ counsel had yet to receive any documents from the prosecutor.

Deputy public prosecutor Kong Siew Chuo told the court that the forensic report was still pending.

Chai and her husband Ling were charged with the murder of the four-year-old, who was believed to have been killed between March 4 and 7, 2022 around 5pm at a house in Bintawa.

Chang was reported missing on March 7 while under the care of Chai, who was his caregiver.

The search and rescue operation began on March 13, 2022 and ended March 19, and the body of the boy has yet to be found.
