Positive cases up from zero to nine forcing cancellations of major events state-wide

KUCHING: Sarawak has six new Covid-19 cases, increasing the statewide total to nine positive tests as the disease continues to spread, forcing cancellations of major events statewide.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said two new cases were from Limbang and four from Kuching.

He explained that the new cases comprised participants of the recent religious gathering at the Sri Petaling Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, recently.

“All of them are being treated at the designated hospitals. The cases from Limbang were medevacked to Miri Hospital.

“Sarawak is taking the step to immediately announce new cases so the public will be well informed,” he said in a statement after chairing a special meeting yesterday to discuss on the latest development of Covid-19 in Sarawak.

Also present were Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Seri Dr Sim Khui Hian, State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, his deputy Datuk Ik Pahon, Director of the State Immigration Department Datuk Ken Leben, Director of the State Security and Enforcement Committee Datuk Dr Chai Khin Chung, Director of Malaysia Civil Defence Force PPJ (PA) Mohtar Samat and representatives from the Sarawak Health Department.
Uggah advised those who attended the religious gathering and who had not reported themselves to the nearest hospital and the Divisional Health Office for the Covid-19 screening to do so immediately.
“We managed to track down 311 participants, but we believe there may be more.

“We have decided to form a special team to study the Sarawak health declaration forms of those who entered Sarawak from all four airports from March 2 to 5. This is to enable us to identify those who flew to Sarawak.”
At the same time, the deputy chief minister also held talks with representatives of private hospital representatives, seeking their support and cooperation to address the current Covid-19 outbreak.
