MIRI: The police here have arrested a man who is suspected of being involved in drug trafficking and seized various types of drugs worth almost RM2 million in an operation here last Monday.

The 23-year-old man from Pahang was arrested at 8pm at the parking lot of a petrol station at Ngu junction, Batu Niah, Jalan Miri-Bintulu by a team from the Miri District Police Headquarters Narcotics Investigation Division (BSJN) following public tip-offs.

Sarawak Police Commissioner (CP) Datuk Amer Awal said police seized various types of drugs with the suspect.

He said following the arrest, police raided a house at Tanjung Lobang here which is believed to be used to store the drugs. Various types of drugs were found in the house.

“The drugs seized are 2,578 grams of syabu, marijuana (3516.38 grams), erimin 5 (1,230 tablets), ecstasy (3,568 tablets) and 950 Yaba pills,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

He also disclosed that it was the biggest drug haul in the state this year.

Amer added that the suspect who was tested positive for syabu is being remanded for seven days until March 13 to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.

He said the police are also conducting several operations to track down the suspect’s fellow syndicate members who are both locals and foreigners.

“Police are also investigating where the drug syndicate gets its supply from and who their masterminds are,” he said.

He said some of the seized drugs were hidden in food and drink packets as well as instant cereal drink packets to hoodwink the authorities concerned.

“The drugs are believed to be sold in this city (Miri) only,” he said.

Amer also thanked the public and other agencies for providing information to the police.

Also present were Miri District Police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah and Sibu District Police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit.
